Jenny + LaDarien’s Fully Loaded Maternity Shoot

Jenny: Jay we’d really love for you to shoot our maternity portraits.

Jay: Of course! I’d be honored! 😎

Jay: Perfect we’ll see you soon!

Jay: Rock and roll! 🥳

Jenny: We’re bringing our pistols.

Jay: Wait what? 😳😳😳

FULL DISCLOSURE: When I’m preparing for a shoot I am 100% of the time preparing to do the shooting and not being the one getting shot. In fact, I would venture to say that I spend a large amount of my time on this planet doing things to avoid getting shot. So when “we are bringing our pistols” enters into a conversation about a session a lot goes through your head.

Jenny & LaDarien booked a maternity portrait session to commemorate Jenny’s pregnancy as well as celebrate the arrival of their new baby with their family and friends. I received an email from them and within a few weeks, we were shaking hands for the first time and preparing to make some amazing images..

Most times sessions with me start with going over of wardrobe and props so I asked to see what we’d be working with that day. Some nice denim jeans, a pair of Jordan’s for an image they had in mind, a pistol, a nightstick, taser…. wait… ok. Ummm.

Cops! Both of them! I figured it best to tell you that now less you are as afraid of where the story is going as I was. If you are wondering did I pull back on my corny jokes in the face of weapons? Hell no! My father was a cop, and truthfully, a little corny so I was right at home. Being good spirits they took any joke I threw at them while making jokes of their own. By the end of the session they’d almost talked Toni and I into having a kid. That’s usually a good place to end a session for me 😅😅.
